Donjo was founded on the principle that

every building, every home

is a living document that reflects the lives of its inhabitants.

As each person and company is unique,

so are their stories.

Not all of our projects are glamorous and Pinterest-worthy, but one thing is true: each of our projects is a reflection of the families and companies we serve.

When a tired mother calls in desperation because she’s got a leak in her wall, we show up. When a family decides to sell their ailing mother’s crumbling home, we work with them to ensure they know the house will get a facelift where a new family will continue to build memories.

Sure, we have the glamorous work, the ones with the pretty tiles and flooring and oh-so-trendy farmhouse design. We believe that renovation projects should be fun.

But at the heart of what we do is about the people. The first-time homebuyers who have saved every penny to renovate their forever home. The family who needs additional room to care for an aging parent (or a new addition!).

A Business Rooted in FAMILY

Donjo Construction, LLC (MHIC# 134067) was founded in 2013 by Felipe A. Tobar. The company name was derived from Tobar’s late father, Jose, who was nicknamed the “Don” —a title similar to mister (señor) but conveying a higher degree of reverence. He ultimately became known around town as “Donjo.” Donjo was known in his town in Chile as a strong, trustworthy and reliable confidant in the community, many traits in which the company was founded. Felipe’s mission for the company is to continue his father’s legacy by providing reliable, trustworthy, honest – and most importantly – quality work. The company is founded on the principle that the customer comes first, and Donjo Construction provides a high standard of service and personal attention to each client.

ABOUT THE CEO

Felipe Tobar studied architecture at the Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile, and came to the U.S. when he was recruited to play rugby for Ohio State University where he continued his studies in architecture. He was then recruited to play for Towson University, where he studied environmental science.

Rugby has been an instrumental force in Tobar’s life, teaching him about many of life’s core lessons about character, discipline and leadership. These same principles are what guided him in founding Donjo.

Just as rugby taught us to “leave our jersey in a better place than when we found it,” we strive to do the same in everything we do.

WE BUILD. WE BUILD DREAMS. WE BUILD HOMES.

WE BUILD COMMUNITIES.
